The average American's total carbon footprint is around 23 tons of CO2 a year. So, overall Nicole and I are doing pretty well, having only about half that of an "average" American. Obviously, we have flown quite a few miles this year, so our footprint is much higher because of this choice in lifestyle. But our other footprints are pretty low based on the fact that we live in a 100 sq/foot living space, own zero cars, have solar panels and a wind generator to cut down engine charging time for our batteries, and live a fairly simple lifestyle. By no means are we perfect, but we are focusing on being aware and conscious of our decisions and how we are affecting the world around us with our own footprints on the planet. This year we have decided to buy offset credits through NativeEnergy to support their wind energy and methane energy programs. It cost us about $300 U.S..
